MIT Educational Studies Program splash at mit.edu
Sun Oct 28 13:43:28 EDT 2012

Greetings from the Educational Studies Program!

Splash 2012 registration is closing soon. *This will be your last reminder
about registration*, so be sure to register before the deadline.

Because of inclement weather and the likelihood of power outages on the
East Coast, Splash registration is being *extended until November 1st at
11:59 PM*. However, please plan ahead, and register earlier if at all
possible! It will be very difficult to extend registration further.

Classes being offered this Splash include:

-Explosive Chemistry
-Tanks for the Memories: Armored Warfare in World War 2
-Swing Dancing
-What Makes Everything on the Internet Work
-Hacking Minesweeper
-Physics of Unicycling
-Speedy Delivery: An Introduction to Ethics, the Trolley Car Problem, and
Why We Can't Have Nice Things
-Backyard rockets

Splash registration is now open at <
http://esp.mit.edu/learn/Splash/2012/studentreg>, and the catalog is posted
at <http://esp.mit.edu/learn/Splash/2012/catalog>. As in previous years,
registration will use a lottery system. Until November 1st, students may
submit class preferences; remember to select many preferences for classes,
since many classes are oversubscribed. All preferences submitted by
November 1st will be considered equally. On November 5, lottery results
will be released, and students will have the opportunity to adjust their
schedules from the pool of classes that still have space.

*Payments, lunch, will open November 5th*

Online payment for Splash will open on November 5th, when the lottery
results are released. You may pay online via credit card ahead of time, or
with cash or check when you check in at Splash.

Splash will once again be organizing a student lunch and dinner on Saturday
and a student lunch on Sunday, and you will be able to order tickets online
starting November 5th. Lunch costs $5 and dinner costs $10.

*New this year: insurance requirement, $40 price*
*
*Starting this year, MIT requires that all students who attend Splash must
have health insurance. For more details on this policy, see <
http://esp.mit.edu/learn/Splash/medicalFAQ.html>.

This year the price of Splash will increase to $40 for the entire weekend.
As always, generous financial aid is available.

*Join us for the Parents' Program!*

You're invited to join other Splash parents on the campus of MIT for a
series of free talks during the Fall 2012 MIT Splash.
