Hello again from the MIT Educational Studies Program!

Thank you for signing up at <esp.mit.edu>. You are receiving this email
because you wanted to learn more about the programs we run - for example,
Spark, a day-long extravaganza of classes and activities on the MIT campus,
and HSSP, an eight-week long program on Saturdays for students in the
Boston area! You can read more about Spark and HSSP at our website. Short
descriptions of these programs are below.

** Spring HSSP **

Have you ever wanted to take an in-depth class about Fringes of Chaos,
Neuroscience and the Seven Dwarves, Cryptography and Cryptanalysis, or one
of dozens of other topics? Come take up to three 8-week courses on
Saturdays at Spring HSSP!

HSSP runs on Saturdays from *Feb 18* through *Apr 14*, skipping March 10,
on the MIT campus. HSSP offers long-term classes on a variety of topics,
both academic and not. More information is available at <
esp.mit.edu/learn/HSSP>, and the full catalog is available at <
esp.mit.edu/learn/HSSP/2012_Spring/catalog>.
*
The first phase of **registration is now open and will end on Feb 5*; all
registrations before this deadline are considered equally. The second phase
of registration will open a few days later and close on Feb 14. The cost of
the program is $40, but please note that very generous financial aid is
available. We encourage all students for whom the cost is prohibitive to
apply for financial aid as part of the registration process.

If you have any questions, go to
<esp.mit.edu/learn/HSSP<http://esp.mit.edu/learn/HSSP/index.html>>
or email us at <spring-hssp at mit.edu>!

** Spark **

Come learn about anything you want for a day! Spark is a one-day program
designed to let you explore a wide range of classes taught by MIT students
and community members. Have you ever wanted to take a class on:

- Medical Ethics
- Playing DDR Like A Pro
- Quantum Physics
- Zombie Defense
- Cryptography

... or any of hundreds of other awesome topics? If so, Spark is the program
for you! This year, Spark will be held *Saturday, March 10*, on the MIT
campus.

Registration for Spark 2012 will open on at 8 pm on *February 14th* (that's
Valentine's Day) at <esp.mit.edu/learn/Spark>. The catalog will be
available at <esp.mit.edu/learn/Spark/2012/catalog> shortly before then.
Don't worry if you can't see the catalog well in advance - this year,
classes will again be scheduled by a lottery system to ensure that the
student enrollment process is as fair as possible. Class preferences will
be accepted until *February 22nd*; all preferences received up until this
point will be treated exactly the same (there is no priority given to
students who register first). It is strongly encouraged that you take your
time to go through the catalog and choose classes that you're most
interested in taking. For more information on the lottery, see <
esp.mit.edu/learn/lotteryFAQ.html>.

After the lottery results are released on February 25th, there will be a
second phase of registration where you can add or change classes on your
schedule. The Class Changes phase of registration opens February 26th and
closes March 4th. For more information, see <
esp.mit.edu/learn/lotteryFAQ.html>.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at <esp-spark at mit.edu>.

We look forward to seeing you at Spark or HSSP!

Sincerely,
The Educational Studies Program
